On July 15, AQHA’s 2009 Region Three Experience kicked off its fifth year in St. Paul, Minnesota, with trail and horsemanship classes. The entry numbers in these classes were outstanding, making the show run into late night hours. AQHA Professional Horseman Lance Treptow presented a clinic to novice youth and amateur exhibitors on Tuesday night with the course, offering helpful suggestions on negotiating the obstacles. The clinics were limited to novice participants, but everyone was welcome to watch as well.
Here’s a little of what else went on:
- Region Three hosted an ice cream social on Wednesday afternoon, a welcome treat in the July weather.
- Lily Anderson, from Ottumwa, Iowa, competed at her first Region Three in the small fry 9 and under walk/trot division. She and her gelding, KDR Im SKippin Town, won the small fry trail. “My first Region Three, and I won my first class!” she exclaimed as she rode forward to receive her award.
- Millie Mauritzson from Port Byron, Illinois, won the Select trail with her sorrel gelding, Chex Your Destiny. The pair returned to win the senior trail title as well.
- Missouri exhibitors were at Region Three this year in full force, meeting with great success. Our exhibitors from Canada increased this year as well, and we were happy to have them.
- The first time exhibitor youth and adult classes were popular again this year, with several new exhibitors coming to show.
