The youth aren’t the only ones who come out to play during the summer.

The 2010 Adequan Select World Championship Show comes to Amarillo each year during the last week of August. “Select” is a division dedicated to amateur competitors 50 years of age and older, and competitors pushed themselves throughout the year to earn points to qualify for this year’s Adequan Select World Show in Amarillo, Texas. The show began on August 29 and ran through September 4.

These competitors traveled from all around the country to showcase the hard work and dedication they have put into their hobby. These horsemen and women spent the week competing in classes that include halter, horsemanship, reining, hunter under saddle, jumping, barrel racing and ranch sorting.

“It has been a great experience,” said trainer Chris Russell, who recently moved to Caseyville, Illinois, to work for Mark Harrell Horse Shows. “Our Select has put a lot of effort into showing and becoming competitive. It was an exciting time to see her effort and tribulations pay off.” Maureen Crooks, a client of Mark Harrell Horse Shows, placed ninth in aged geldings.

Qualifying points for the 2011 Select World Show began on June 1, 2010, and will continue until May 31, 2011. Therefore, once the Select exhibitors leave Amarillo, they will, again, hit the arenas hard to earn themselves a spot in next year’s show.
