November 13, 2009
Do you like your horse events western?
Then you will not want to miss Battle in the Saddle, a new event that showcases the best horses and riders in five western disciplines: reining, working cow horse, roping, cutting and ranch horse competition.
The inaugural Battle in the Saddle is July 6-10, 2010, at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City. The show is owned by Oklahoma State Fair and managed by AQHA, but is open to all breeds with $130,000 in added money for an estimated $340,000 in purses. Cutting, reining, roping and working cow horse classes will be recognized as AQHA special events. All breeds are welcome but American Quarter Horses competing will receive AQHA points. The ranch horse competition is open to all ranches that meet the criteria of the AQHA-Bayer Best Remuda Award.
Roping events will be recognized by the American Rope Horse Futurity Association and follow ARHFA rules. Horses competing in the cutting will receive National Cutting Horse Association recognition. Ancillary reining classes will be approved by the Oklahoma Reining Horse Association. The National Reined Cow Horse Association will be involved, as well.
And you won’t want to miss the excitement of watching the U.S. reining team being chosen for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

my friend Jerry Parker decided to enter his appaloosa stallion Haidas Slik Willie in the Battle with less than 4 months training in working cow horse and heeling(he was in the reining as well but already a champion)our trainer Ron Herman of Lindsay,Ok. got a lot of positive comments on our little stud. willie is also a champion cutting horse so we didnt enter him in that but to learn heeling and WCH in less than 4 months says something about the breed and Willie. He is the only Appaloosa stallion we know of that competed in all those events,oh he got reserve in the Working Cow Horse. Thank you Ron Herman for your awesome training!!!!
