The American Quarter Horse Association is holding its third annual contest to fill the pages of the 2014 AQHA Calendar, which will again feature photos submitted by AQHA members.

For 2014, our calendar’s theme will be: youth and American Quarter Horses.

AQHA members can submit their favorite photo of their American Quarter Horse and/or their favorite youth through the Photo Contest tab on AQHA’s Facebook page.

To submit a photo for the calendar, contestants must be current AQHA members, 18 or older. One entry per person. Subjects in your photos need to be youth members 18 and younger and registered American Quarter Horses. You will be asked to provide the registered names of the horses and the names/hometowns of the youths in your photo.

Multiple winners will be chosen, and each winner will receive a free 2014 AQHA calendar. AQHA’s design team will do its best to include all winning photos in the 2014 AQHA calendar. The calendar will be available for sale through Quarter Horse Outfitters.

By legendary sire Topsail Cody and out of Jameen Gay by Toby Gay Bar, Topsails Rien Maker has long been one to watch in the reined cow horse arena. Bred by Stellato Revocable Trust of Redding, California, Topsails Rien Maker is now owned by Russell Dilday and Kevin Cantrelle. “Slider,” as the stallion is known around the barn, boasts winnings of more than $340,000, making him the all-time leading money earner in the sport of reined cow horse. He exemplifies the traits needed in a top-level cow horse: cow sense, athleticism, versatility and heart.

Slider’s top feat came with owner-trainer Russell Dilday of Porterville, California, when the duo won the World’s Greatest Horseman competition not once, but three times. Slider is the event’s only three-time winner, and Russell is the only rider to have won three times, as well. The World’s Greatest Horseman, governed by the National Reined Cow Horse Association, comprises four events: herd work, rein work, steer stopping and cow work. Teams are judged on their ability to separate and cut a cow, perform a reining pattern, stop a steer by roping its horns

and work a single cow in the arena. All four events hail from the skills necessary to perform real ranch work.
