The last two days of the 2009 Region Two Experience went by in a blur. And the Region Two steering committee met to get started on the 2010 show, aiming for the same weekend next year. The final number of entries shown hit around 1,300, according to Kari Williams of Quarter Time Management.

Saturday, September 26, Team Wrangler Member Traci Johnting of Butler, Kentucky, flew in to give a clinic on barrels and poles. With so many exhibitors entering both the showmanship and speed classes, Traci’s official clinic was shifted to later in the day. She ended up giving two mini clinics to accommodate riders who had come to work with her.

Saturday also featured a Breyer Fun Day hosted by Y-L Saddlery in the trade show area. For $2 a horse, kids young and old could paint their own mini Breyer horse. There was a total of 136 horse painted.

Sunday, September 27, the excitement built for the all-around competition for the Tex Tan award saddles sponsored by Markel Insurance and the Region Two Experience. The divisional results were tallied and announced after each final western pleasure class:

  • Youth, 14 and older – Alyssa Nix and Power Of Revulation, Sioux Falls, South Dakota
  • Novice youth – Sarah Edgar and Envy My Assets, Bathgate, North Dakota
  • Amateur – Kaylee Mundwiler and The Royal Chip, Millbank, South Dakota
  • Novice amateur – Brenda Brinker and Two Bee Magic, Trumbull, Nebraska

(saddles sponsored by Markel Insurance)

  • Open – Kevin Winter and Look Whos Larkin Now, owned by Tracy Luedeke-Cutler, Stratford, South Dakota
  • Select – Betty LaBelle and Dimensions Ona Whim, Missoula, Montana
  • Youth, 13 and under – Sarah Edgar and Envy My Assets, Bathgate, North Dakota

(saddles sponsored by Region Two Experience)

Sherry Clemens, the Region Two Experience Web master, has been posting candids and news from the show, too. Check that out at http://region2experience.com/2009news.html.

It’s been a fun show, any way you look at it. Many thanks to the volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors who made it happen. Hope to see you all back next year!
