What We Said
AQHA staff members weighed in with their horses’ favorite treats.
- SmartPak Carrot Crunchers – Publications Managing Editor Larri Jo Starkey
- Baby carrots, apples and sometimes ginger snap cookies – AQHA Advertising Account Executive Kristen Jacobson
- Spicy Nacho Doritos and SmartPak’s Uncle Jimmy’s Squeezy Buns – American Quarter Horse Racing Journal Editor Andrea Caudill
- Peppermint horse treats. I pull one out of my pocket immediately after he runs (a barrel pattern) and give it to him for a job well done. – Senior Manager of Regional Shows Kelly Proffitt
- Apples and carrots are Junior’s all-time favorites … he’s health-conscious that way! But I’ve recently discovered another more economical treat that all the horses here love: alfalfa cubes. You can flake off small squares that are perfect for treats. These come in 50-pound bags and are c.h.e.a.p., as well as being all-natural. I love giving horse treats as gifts to my horsey friends, and last Christmas, I went with Uncle Jimmy’s Squeezy Buns, which are morsels of oats, ground corn and molasses that I had shipped from SmartPak. Reports are that Santa should bring them again next year! – America’s Horse Editor Holly Clanahan, author of The Gallop Report
