Price Check on AQHA Services
December 23, 2008
How to avoid the New Year’s changes hitting your pocketbook.
As AQHA members and American Quarter Horse owners, I like to keep you all “in the know” with goings on here at AQHA. Because when it comes to AQHA rule changes, that’s right where we all need to be!Beginning January 1, 2009, AQHA is changing the fees for the following basic services: DNA kits, Stallion Breeding Reports and Membership fees. The new fees are below.
DNA kit
If ordered on application $40
If ordered for a registered horse $50
Stallion Breeding Report
Stallion filing fee $25
Mare fee $5/mare
Late filing fee $30/late report
Membership
12 Month Open $40
36 Month Open $80
Life $500
12 Month Amateur $45
36 Month Amateur $90
12 Month Youth $15
36 Month Youth $35
Life Youth $50
Now that we have that bit out of the way, I have something to add about these fees. You can avoid them.
At least for a while.
And putting off paying more money is not procrastination in my books! Read below for a few money saving tips.
- Enroll in AQHA’s new Auto Renewal program before December 31, 2008 and your current membership fees will be locked in for the next 36 months! *Bonus! AQHA will enter your name into a drawing to win a Ton of feed from Nutrena, as well as give you a $3 coupon from Nutrena for renewing before December 31!
- Renew on or before December 31, 2008 as a life member, you never have to renew again, or worry about what the membership fees are!
- Order DNA kits for your horses that need to be typed on or before December 31, 2008. The current fee is $35. AQHA rules state that any breeding stallion, and any mare born 1989 or later is required to be DNA typed in order for their foal to be registered.
- Make sure your 2008 Stallion Breeding Reports are filed, and all mares are listed and accounted for.
So, before you ring in the New Year, pick up your phone and ring AQHA to put some of those pointers into play!
As always, at your service…

How much in US dollars does it cost to transfer a horse from one owner over to another owner on the registration papers? (Owner transfer)
