It’s nice to see familiar faces in new places.

We usually see Karen Evans Mundy at the AQHA World Championship Show, competing for all-around amateur honors.

This weekend, she’s at the Region Five Experience in Syracuse, New York, working the Markel Insurance booth. Karen is a new representative for Markel, an AQHA corporate partner. Her booth is near the AQHA booth, where Leman Wall, AQHA’s director of affiliate partnerships, is transferring horses and creating new memberships. After I checked in on Leman, I spoke with Karen, who had some big news.

This year will be Karen’s last year as an amateur. She plans to compete at her Regional Experience in Jackson, Mississippi, and then we’ll see her a couple of weeks later at the Bayer Select World Championship Show. It will be her first Bayer Select World and her last.

Karen is applying for a judges card. She hopes to teach some clinics and concentrate on her insurance business.
