Region Six Championship Day 1

July 10, 2010

A TV Western leads to a new love at the 2010 Region Six Championship.

Brent Leveille and Zips Cash Bar Leo

Five years ago, Brent Leveille was watching a TV Western when he came to a realization: He wanted to try riding a horse.

The Newington, Conneticut, resident had a 20-year stint in the Air Force and an 18-year stint as a financial planner. Currently enjoying the retired life, Brent decided that he wanted to cross horseback riding off his “bucket list.” Some research led to a school offering a summer lesson program. It turns out that Brent liked riding and has waded right in to the horse life.

Brent and his wife, Nancy, now own two horses, and they ride “most every day,” he says.

Nancy rides their first horse, Leaguers Legend or “Ransom,” while Brent rides Zips Cash Bar Leo, or “Zack.”

Brent began with barn shows and was competing in walk-trot classes at the Region Six Championship.

“I learn a lot from the shows,” he said.

And when he received a top-five placing in his horsemanship class, his friends and supporters let out a huge cheer.

The four-day Region Six Championship is being hosted in West Springfield, Massachusetts, July 8-11. For more, check out the slideshow below, and click on the photos to read captions.
