i had two horses with sarcoids, my gelding had a large flat type on his chest. his previous owners had tried everything, re-injection, creams, you name it, with no success. I had him for two years and it was getting bigger every year. The one on my mare was also on her chest but it was the protruding type about the size of the end of your thumb, also seemed to be getting larger. So this elderly friend of mine who has cows on our place in the summer told me to treat it with lavender oil, she said it had to be therapeutic grade. She said lavender oil has anti-viral qualities. so on the gelding it was bloody and crusty from the flies so i put on the lavender oil and then packed it with corona cream. I saw improvement within 2 weeks. It has been about a year now and it is covered with hair, you can still see where it was, but it is healed and still growing hair. My mare i used the rubber band trick and the lavender oil, it took about a month and it fell off and has never returned, one little bare spot where it was. I had tried the rubber band trick before without the lavender oil and it fell off, but grew back. I got the lavender oil at the health food store the big bottle ran me around 12 bucks. I would apply it about 3 times a week on both horses. I had good luck, i hope this works for someone else, at least its a cheap try! good luck!

I have a Percheron/Friesian Cross that had his shots given in his neck.
He developed a what looked like a sarcoid shortley after. It was about 2 inches in diameter raised and wartie looking. He lost the hair around it. He was 1yr old at the time. It stayed the same for at least 4 years would sometimes get crusty from getting it scratched.
I started treating it with Pure Tea Tree oil. I dab some on a cotton ball and apply it every day. I think it stung him sometimes but he let me apply it. It took 2yrs of doing this application and finally part of the wartie raised area seemed to pop and the lesion seemed to ooze a little bloody fluid but the wartie area went flat . A short time later the other half also did the same thing.
The entire area is now totally covered with hair and you would never know there was ever a lesion there. This may or may not help some of the larger cases but it sure worked for him.

Dear All,
I am a veterinarian in Australia and wish to clear up some misconceptions about equine sarcoids. Primarily is that statistically approximately 30% of cases (at least in Australia) will go away by themselves doing absolutely nothing. So for all of these treatments that work for some people and not work for other people it could easily be explained by the statistics. So to say that something works for sarcoids because it seemed to work for you is wrong. Any product needs to be tested on hundreds to thousands of horses to be able to say it works, AND it needs to improve on the 30% spontaneous regression that would be seen doing nothing at all. Additionally the best rates of success are around 80-90% of cases cured, as for other cancers. Nothing in the scientific literature has found rates better than this FOR any treatment tested on large population samples. So ANY treatment will not work on ALL horses. Sorry, there is still much to learn about equine sarcoids, as there is cancer and the immune system. My advice, talk to an equine vet first, preferably a specialist qualified equine vet before wasting money on questionable cures.

I have a paint gelding that has two sarcoids in his left ear. I have treated his ear twice with XXtera and the sarcoids didnt get any bigger nor did they go away. So now my vet is going to do surgery and remove the two sarcoids then we are going to treat his ear with Sarcoid Cleansing Salve from Balanced Eco Solutions. My hope is that this product is able to keep the sarcoids from returning.

My paint gelding was diagnosed with Occult Sarcomas last spring (2011). We did six injections over a six week period to boost his immune system ... TO NO AVAIL. He has one the size of a silver dollar on his neck and one behind his front leg. Thankfully it doesn't interfere with his cinch and I still ride him. I was online looking for possible alternatives and think I'm going to try the tea tree oil, which I already have on hand and the Kyolic garlic. I'll try the tea tree oil first and will let you all know what happens. Wish me luck ... this is a horse I absolutely LOVE!!!

I have a 6 year old paint with an occult or verrucous sacoid on his neck. His is like a grey/black cauliflower thing, like lumpy, irregular thickened skin with no hair - about the size of a dime. I just had a skin biopsy done (now reading that aggravating it may caus the thing to spread...ugh!). Anyhow, I'm wondering if people can be clearer about their attempted treatment to different types of sarcoids. It isn't a bump really (although it is uneven). also, in reading about Xxterra, can people tell me if the hair grows back? The area where he has this is surrounded by black hair. I don't want a patch of white hair to grow back. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I commented above on Dec 29th. I am still applying the liquid Kyolic garlic to my horse's sarcoid on her shoulder once in morning and nearly all bumps are gone. I can feel only a couple very tiny bumps. If you look up garlic on internet, it has so many amazing good results from humans to animals.

I have a mare with sarcoids in both ears. I had them removed and burned with liquid nitrogen last summer. Of course, they are back! She was never earshy until after the procedure. She is just now returned to letting me handle her ears; I would hate to do that again! I'm interested in the Mushroom Matrix ECP as a cure that's less invasive. Anyone with experience with this product and ear sarcoids?

I also have a horse with a sarcoid near his eye. The original sarcoid was just below the point of his eye. We have done two rounds of cisplatin and for a bit it was quiet. Now it is back and the eyelid is puffy, obviously the sarcoid is spreading up the eyelid. We will lose the eye if it gets much worse. One vet told us to do Cisplatin again, another said to try Xterra first. I am worried about putting Xterra on his eyelid. ANy experience with this? Thank you. I also think the mushroom ECP would be worth a try.

Well...I have a 7 yr old geling...and this sarcoid is a mess...I had it removed and tested. I've had it lazered off, cut off, ortho-scopticly removed, tubes of cream @ $85 per tube, exterra @ $75 per 1 oz jar, blood root, spent over $3500 on all kind of remedies and vet expense with 4 different vets...shots, I'm thoroughly disgusted and this is a very good gelding, barrel racing horse. It is on his ankle and he is getting disgusted with the picking up of his leg and doctoring...everything mentioned above works for a very short timeframe and then it is BACK--bigger and nastier than ever. He bumps it so it will be bloody looking and very nasty...I think I'm now going to try the Mushroom Mattrix ECP or the Tea Tree oil...but I have not had luck with any product or veterinarian surgery process! I'm very fustrated! So those that find a permanent process -- thank goodness...I have not found anything that works as a final product or process...just giving vets money!

My horse has a 4 inch patch of small wart-like bumps on the upper part of her front leg which was diagnosed by a vet as Sarcoid. She also had a patch of just regular warts on her back leg by her fetlock. About 6 months ago I used liquid garlic called "Kyolic" purchased from the health food store for one week on my grandson for a few warts which disappeared and never returned. Three months ago I used this same product on my horse's wart patch on her back leg, applying once a day, and they disappeared in 3 weeks without returning. At the same time I also started applying this garlic to the Sarcoid and most of the patch of bumps are gone but a few small bumps remain and are a little scabby. I did take pictures when starting and will continue to treat the Sarcoid with garlic.

I have used the Mushroom Matrix and it did not work with my horse. I feed the Matrix ECP daily to all my horses it's a great product. But one horse 16yo irish sport horse has bad sarcoids, one big patch on his stifle and another in his armpit area. Call mushroom matrix if you are thinking about using it, they auctually reccomend one of their other products (think its called equident) and not the regular ECP for sarcoid treatment. My horse was on this for over a year and it made the sarcoids worse, more angry, got bloody and bad looking but never got better. As soon as I pulled him off, after a year they calmed down and started to look better again.
