AQHA Transfer Report Video Tutorial
AQHA Transfer Report Video Tutorial

AQHA customer service gets asked for help filling out our forms a lot. With that in mind, we created a video tutorial that will help you complete your horse’s transfer report anytime, anywhere! Watch the video for a step-by-step guide to completing an AQHA transfer report. Be sure to read the rest of this post for some extra pointers on doing your homework before you buy.

  • Before you purchase your American Quarter Horse, it’s always a good idea to ensure that the seller has the original registration certificate as well as a transfer report. You can call AQHA customer service to make sure that the person you’re purchasing the horse from is the owner on record or authorized to sign paperwork for the owner, or you can purchase an ownership record for the horse online.
  • If you’re not buying a horse from the owner on record, check with your seller to ensure they have a transfer report putting the horse into their name before you complete your purchase. AQHA does not knowingly allow skipped transfers, but you can send multiple transfers in at the same time and we’ll update the horse’s record and put the horse in your name.

  2. We have sold a registered horse to a party that does not have an AQHA membership. We, the seller, are willing to pay the $15 transfer fee. We have a current AQHA membership. Does this qualify for the $15 fee regardless if the Buyer has an AQHA membership? The fee chart on the Transfer Report does not make it clear who the current member must be; the Seller or the Buyer or both. If both must be members for the $15 fee, it should be stated clearly. The form should be clear about what the fee is for people who wish to remain non-members. This may encourage membership.

I would appreciate your reply so I know what to do about the transfer.
    thank you, Karen Parvin, Idaho

  7. We are purchasing a Quarter Horse for my daughter and are working on tracking down the previous owners to get the registration transferred. My daughter is 9 years old and an AQHYA member. Would it be best to put just her name on the papers or should I set it up as co-owned with me as the second owner (I am not an AQHA member)? She wants to show in 4H as well as AQHYA shows.

    Thank you!

  8. I have a registered AU and USA mare named Touche in America she is Touch As. I have not recived her paperwork for her American registration and have since sold her can you please see why I have not recieved her paperwork or her full brothers papers, he is TOUCHED AS. I had them registered throught the Australian QH association offices, I was under the impression that the papers would be sent direct to me. I had leased both horses to our daughter- in -law, Keren Linton. Keren tells me she has not recived the papers on either horse. Both horses have been sold and are registered in Australia in the new owners name and i would like to furnish them with their USA registrations so they can transfer them into their ownership. 11. I recently obtained horse #34897171, Its Time At Last. I have purchased an amateur membership but would also like to put my 13 year old daughter’s name on his papers. Can I do this so she is listed as co-owner (she probably will only show in 4H shows for a while).

Also, this is an incentive fund foal. What do I need to do to continue this and what does it mean to me as the new owner?
    Thanks,

  18. I am going to transfer a horse from someone who has been originally an AQHA member when she registered this horse. Since then she has let her membership drop. I however, am a present member. As long as one of us is an AQHA member, (mainly the buyer)is this the qualification for the $15 transfer fee??
I await your reply. Thank you for your time,
    Suzy O’Leary

  19. You guys are great! Thanks so much for the speedy turn-around on my rush transfer request. My Fed-ex package arrived at 10:00 AM today and by the time I called this afternoon to check on the timing, I was already the owner of record. I can show my new horse on Friday – THANK YOU!!!

  20. HI there,

I recently adopted a registerd AQHA Perlino Mare by the name of Expensive Emotion AQHA #5366373. The listed owner of the mare cannot be reached and her paperwork is therefore missing. I want her to be able to be in my name for showing and or breeding purposes. How do I proceed in getting her transferred into my name when the people who were held responsible for the mare did not care for her properly hence the “adoption” and have been careless with purposeful information?

  21. For everybody having issues – it took me a while but i found the answer on how to download the form. Go to the main page (AQHA.com) and scroll to the very bottom of the page. There will be a link that says “resources”. Click it. Then, scroll down the page until you see the “registration”. Under that column, you can find the transfer papers.

  22. I purchased a Registered Quarter Horse last year. The owner said she would mail my the papers and a transfer request. She mailed everything to the wrong address. She dropped off “affidait for Duplicate Certificate” at my house but I still don’t have the transfer paperwork. The mare I purchased was bred to a registered Quarter horse and had a colt. In the mean time, she still hasn’t provided me with the paperwork. How do I register this colt?

  23. I need to get my horse’s registration record. Her previous owners lost her papers. Her registration number is 3923392 my aqha member no. is 3712947. Please let me know what I can do to get her papers! Thank you.

Thanks I see this same question posted and have hoped frequently answered guestions were posted on your site but could not find that page.

  25. Dear Aqha

  26. I am planning to sell one of my AQHA registered horses, but do not have a transfer form to use in transferring ownership. Could you send one to me, either by mail or in PDF format?

I have also made plans to buy an AQHA registered gelding. The current owner has allowed his AQHA membership to expire, and he does not have a transfer form. Again, could you please send one to me?

    Thanks.

  30. Hi Jennifer,

If you are sending your transfer report via FedEx, you can send it to AQHA, 1600 Quarter Horse Dr, Amarillo TX 79104. If you are sending the transfer via the U.S. Postal Service, you can mail it to AQHA, PO Box 200, Amarillo TX 79168. For any additional questions about your transfer report, be sure to call (806) 349-6405.

  31. I am trying to obtain the papers for a horse that we purchased and sent in paperwork for a year ago. There was a problem with purchasing a membership during a previous transfer and we did not receive the papers back. The horse is SNAPPIN OFF SPARKS and he is a 2011 stud colt, palomino. Previously owned by Susan Melchert of MT. I have since purchased a membership under the name Kelly and Annet Ribling #2687238. We would like to expediate this process as the horse is going into training and the trainer would like a copy of the papers. Thanks. This is the only contact info on this website that works.

  32. It would be helpful if AQHA had an accounts payable section for each of the members, so any arrears concerning transfers etc… could be paid expediently with a credit card.

  33. It would be VERY helpful if your transfer report page would load so I could print out the forms. I have tried for weeks, contacted you about it and nothing. I have tried in every browser, updated JAVA and Flash player and still nothing. This was to be a Christmas gift for my daughter. VERY frustrating.

  34. I would like to transfer a horse in to my name, I have a copy of the certificate of registration for AQHA, And I’m a member of AQHA. The people I got him from are not member’s, The horse is registrated with AQHA. I know i need the bill of sale. what do i need to get this done, Thank you for your time,,, Carzel fourtner

  35. I have an AU regular registry and USA Appendix registered mare. I understand that an appendix horse can be upgraded to regular registry if the achieve a ROM award – would the AmQHA recognise an Australian ROM for the purpose of the up-grade? The mare in question has won at the Australian QHA Nationals in an open class which is the highest level of AQHA competition in Australia. Thanks Kylie

  36. I bought my horse almost 6 years ago and am now finally getting around to the transfer of ownership. the person I bought him from never transfered the horse to there name but they gave me a transfer of ownership sheet given to them by the person they bought him from. I have no way to contact the previous owner since she was a college grad and has moved on. How would I go about transfering the ownership in this situation?
    Thanks
