Thank you Christine Hamilton and the American Quarter Horse Association for writing the article on the Historic Nelson Ranch, for more details see http://www.historicnelsonranch.com We are sooo grateful for all of the support AQHA has offered us. The Introductory Shows are a great way to get kids started without the cost and competition of the larger shows. We are seeing the amateurs progress onto bigger shows. These were added into our regular shows and it has been really positive for 4-H ers on up.

Open shows are a great venue. Fallon Horsemens Association in Fallon Nevada has been having open horse shows for about 15 years now. We have halter & showmanship classes, English & Western riding classes, and driving classes. It's a great opportunity for youth & adults just starting out, for training horses new to showing, and for those wanting to keep their showing experiences low-key and low-cost. Entry prices are kept low and nice year-end awards include buckles, jackets, horse blankets and more.

I have shown at AQHA shows for years in the past. My husband had been a judge for many years prior to his death. I now show only at Foundation QH Registered shows. The reason is simple, it doesnt cost less to enter or drive or rent stalls, but, my granddaughters and I feel that it is a HORSE show, not a person show, and we are not willing, and I can afford to buy those clothes but, I want the judge to give me his opinion of my horse and my ride, not how much glitter and bling can i pile on my nice horse. I know he is not THE GREATEST according to AQHA Standards these days, but he shows in pleasure, trail, cattle, and Reining. How many of those english horses those girls show these days can do that for three different riders every day and be good at it? All without a PRo Trainer keeping him TUNED UP? AQHA needs to give us a level field and i can take 6 granddaughters to a show and be glad too.
