I have had my horse for 1 year, he is 18 years and very smart. I am still finding out what he knows. I am fairly new to riding pleasure western. My horse likes to run or lope every time I ride him. What do I do to get that out of him? Before riding I will warm him up by: walking and longeing him. I am learning to know where he is mentally, whether he is relaxed for excited and I warm him up accordingly before riding him and at times he still wants to run. Please answer and help!!!

Really great suggestions. So often with our pleasure horses we just “set it and forget it.” Great to remember to treat them like athletes too!
